Orthokeratology

You can stop needing glasses—without surgery.

A healthy eye focuses incoming light onto the retina, allowing for clear vision. Refractive errors, such as myopia (nearsightedness), cause light to fall out of focus, resulting in blurred vision.

Light focuses on the retina; vision is clear. Light does not focus on the retina; vision is blurred.

Orthokeratology involves temporarily modifying the corneal surface through controlled corneal reshaping; this focuses incoming light and improves vision.

This reshaping is achieved using a special type of contact lens worn while sleeping; during sleep, the lenses reshape the cornea, thereby reducing the refractive error.

Upon waking and removing the lenses, everything appears clearer and sharper, with good vision maintained throughout the day.

This treatment is reversible; when the use of overnight contact lenses is discontinued, the cornea will return to its natural shape and prescription.

Treatment advantages

  • Clear vision throughout the day without the need for glasses or contact lenses.
  • Reversible effect.
  • Can prevent the progression of myopia.
  • Lenses are easy to clean and maintain.
  • Can be used for presbyopia.

Each case is personalized; the first step is to determine whether a patient is a suitable candidate for this treatment.
